Martin Whangapirita stars as Wiremu Te Whare, an ordinary man who seeks justice after his friend is brutally slain at the hands of the vicious Colonial. The tempo is high as action filled scenes and gripping one liners travel at break-neck speed. Get ready for a wild ride - Te Whare and Te Furious will explode onto the screen like a Commie on a landmine.
Well, when it rains it pours. Due to the intense time pressures we have experienced as the hand in date approached we were unable to regularly update the production diary even though production has progressed at a rapid pace. Essentially we have finalised the score, finished colour correction, aligned the ADR, rebuilt the Dam sequence with the new matte painting, and finally completed the soundtrack with the altering of dialogue levels and the addition of Sound Effects. Phew, all in time to hand in to the Social Activities office just over half an hour ago (4:30pm).
1/9/06
Richard has now completed his Additional Dialogue Recording to alleviate the problem of the car engine noise while filming at the docks. While only having to re-do one line, Richard really had trouble with his character's motivation. After extensive consultation over what his character's perspective on life was, Richard completed his line brilliantly.
Tim also re-recorded his line. And by his, we mean Brian's. With Brian being out and about in the real world, he was unavailable for ADR purposes. Enter Tim as he becomes The Colonial - albeit for one line only. More Brian than Brian, we reckon.

Skim Milk's work on the score progresses. We now have a 90% complete version which is only needing minor tweaks in order to achieve perfection.
The colour correction process has begun in earnest as Ben wades through our plethora of footage. Using different cameras in vastly different situations has left us with some very 'interesting' looking shots. The colour correction process is going to remove some of the flaws of this situation - reducing the obvious colour flicker and noise in the night time scenes and altering colour levels across the rest of the film. This should give it more coherence and a less amateur look.
Mike has been asked to expand the dam sequence with a further matte painting to really drive home the location and the scale.
5/8/06
The train station detonation is nearly complete, and it has been a rough ride getting there. So many particles, so little time. Skim Milk has received the first half of the film for scoring purposes, the second half should be finalised tomorrow (all going well).
4/8/06
Mike has again been working hard on the matte painting, looking at turning our RC Mini scene into an action packed dam-top sequence. This is looking to be going great places. The combination of matte painting, miniature sequences and live action in-car shots is working well.
3/8/06
It is time for that ever-wonderful Additional Dialogue Recording (ADR). Turns out some of the stuff shot at the Ori was pretty poor sounding (with background noise and all) so Martin will be coming by tonight to do some recording for us.
2/8/06
Mike has brought through his final Matte painting for the train station and it is amazing. The little details are what make it. Roll over the shot below for a look at how cool this sequence is going to get, and just how much work he has put in.
And if you are impressed now, it is going to be even better in full res. He was shown where we were going with the RC Mini scene, and he was keen to look at further matte painting there. This is going to be awesome!
31/7/06
Began looking into the Train Station detonation, and realised it needed a decent matte painting. Enter Mike, matte painter extraordinaire. He is excited to be part of the project, and we can't wait to see what he comes up with.
30/7/06
Captured the footage which Ben shot, it looks pretty good. Definitely going to be action packed once these new sequences are in there.
29/7/06
So we had a wee break while Daniel worked on the Gondwana stuff, but Ben has shot some new footage including a plate shot of the Train station (which will be blown up) and some RC footage of a mini which Erin has kindly provided.
19/7/06
Have begun cutting together some old footage from the abandoned 'Mission: Piece of Piss' to incorporate into the clip. Cutting together Callumn's bar sequence.
16/7/06
Working on the 'Macron' sequence. This can be seen in the teaser clip.
15/7/06
Work is underway improving the text sequences throughout the trailer. The Logo has now been given the 'actiontastic' work over by adding copious amounts of flames.
13/7/06
Captured the footage and have begun rearranging the clips. The Cemetery sequence is now finished and in place.
12/7/06
So, a bit of a gap here. Finally got that cemetery scene completed - only three months later. Also filmed some pick up shots of Martin looking injured, resplendent with Tomato sauce blood. We shot an axe scene with John which looks fantastic, and even did some filming out at Dunedin International Airport. All in all, a solid day of filming.
22/4/06
Finished one of the props for the cemetery scene, and the shooting of that particular sequence is scheduled for tomorrow with Martin (hopefully it won't rain too much).
Recapturing was done on the footage of the Colonial's lair which suffered the same audio faults as the footage from the Ori. Editing of that sequence was started.
21/4/06
Daniel finally got on to capturing the footage from February that was shot - it looks awesome. Also recaptured the faulty footage from the Ori which was shot last December. Work has started on the gunshot effects - they should look a crap load better than the bollocks that has been shown at the Mothra festival in previous years. There have been decent films with guns, they just never get the guns right. We are using a combination of photoshop overlays and keyed in footage of real hand-gun shots, the effect seems to be working pretty well.
26/3/06
Skim Milk has sent through a sample of the Te Whare soundtrack which he has been working on. While there are some kinks, the pacing seems to fit what has been shot and cut together to a tee.
